17 Weeks Pregnant Picture

So here is the 17 weeks pregnant update!

How far along: I am 17 weeks 6 days pregnant! 18 weeks tomorrow!

Symptoms: A lot of tailbone pain when I am laying in one spot for too long or sitting for too long, it also happens on long walks. Definitely feeling bloated and light headed still...

Cravings:  I never eat fish tacos, but the past few days fish tacos sounded good...I don't think I have ever ordered fish tacos in my life. Today Zack and I had fish tacos so that was one craving that I have definitely had and then successfully taken care of, no need for any more haha.

Aversions: Really heavy foods like heavy, saucy meals sound kinda gross to me. Fresh foods have been sounding the best.

Wedding rings: On

Sleep: Every few days I will need a nap, but for the most part I am not feeling like I need to nap every single day. Definitely feeling more energetic in comparison to first trimester, but still sleepier in comparison to not being pregnant.

Excited for: Now I am just counting down the days until our anatomy scan. I will be well into week 20 as I am with all of my ultrasounds so its nice seeing just a tad more development than if I were to be going exactly at week 20 or exactly at week 16. Having my ultrasounds in the middle of the week is nice because we get that extra bit of development. I am also excited for the 4th of July, even though it is going to be an extremely sober holiday haha! But our family from Utah is flying out and staying for a few weeks so Zack and I are excited to spend time with all of them!

Missing: As always in the summer you want to be looking your best so I am missing a bikini body, but I am also excited knowing that by the end of this year we are gonna have a little nugget to call our own and I can get my body in tip top shape for next summer during the winter time!

Movement: We feel her moving all the time now. It is so crazy and fun to feel her moving around in there. I never feel like I am alone, I got a little gremlin messing around in there. Zack loves to feel her move and she is extremely responsive to when Zack and I have conversations or when he is talking. She is also very active when I am getting ready to eat, I think that when I am excited for food she is getting excited haha.

Dr. update: We go back in a couple weeks! Yay! I love seeing her.

Exercise: Exercising daily. Still feeling slower physically...not from an endurance stand point, but my legs actually feel like they get tired sooner, which is so weird because that used to never happen. But I am sticking with it and enjoying the long walks before my day gets going or towards the end of the day.

This picture was taken a few hours before the picture above was taken. I woke up early to go on a morning walk with Oak and Zack and this is pre-breakfast. The bump always looks so much smaller before I eat anything and before my day really gets started. It is so funny because by the end of the day I look like I am 7 months pregnant and then I go to sleep, wake up and we start again. It is definitely growing though and I am enjoying feeling her get bigger everyday! I am glad I am able to stay healthy for her and myself.

This was a day or so before both pictures were taken. Zack and I (+ Oak) outside enjoying juice we had just made in the juicer. Carrots, oranges, lemon, ginger, and a ton or spinach and some granny smith apples. Definitely been avoiding my weakness, which is candy, and going for more juice and smoothies instead.

Get Fit Like Fido!

I've collaborated up with DogVacay, an online dog boarding community, to talk a little bit about staying fit and healthy and some tips and fun workout ideas to incorporate into your workout schedule or to just mix up your daily routine!

As I mention in just about every blog post...I love my pup, Oak, and I constantly work out with him.  Having a healthy and fit dog has been beneficial to myself, especially during this pregnancy because it helps motivate me to get out there and stay active. However, I do love circuit workouts and although my circuit workouts have been more sparse since being pregnant I do love to incorporate them into my workout schedule when I can.

DogVacay came to me with this cute idea to share with all of my readers. They teamed up with Certified Fitness Trainer & Registered Yoga Instructor & dog-lover, Julia Chan to create a workout that benefits both yourself and your loving pup!

Below I have included the DogVacay's Get Fit Like Fido circuit workout for you and pup! I am a fan of circuit workouts myself.  I love circuits that incorporate squats, jump squats, burpees, push-ups, lunges and more for that all-over body workout. You will be sore everywhere after a circuit workout, but it is the best kind of workout in my opinion and also often the quickest! It is important to warm-up and cool down with any workout...even this one below.  Maybe just take the doggy friend on a walk around the block first to loosen up those muscles and get some blood flowing, that's my favorite warm-up at least. I am always ready for a circuit workout after I go on a walk with my dog. The time frame can range to fit your schedule too. You can warm-up and get your heart rate pumping or do a lighter walk and get some stretching time in too. Cooling down is just as important and the circuit workout provided by DogVacay's Fit Like Fido has a few ideas for you! Some of these moves include some yoga positions for those yogis out there. I know I will be making use of the yoga positions with being pregnant to strengthen my muscles instead of overworking my body on a daily basis.

Anyways, I thought this was a really cute idea that was brought to me and I thought I had to share it with you guys! Even if you don't have a dog and you are one of my readers that loves to work out it might be fun to just try the circuit anyways, maybe it will help you get out of a workout rut. Circuit training always gives me more energy, however, I can't say the same for your dog. Your puppy will likely be ready to pass out for the day.

Save this image to your phone, your computer or wherever and you have it with you on the go!

Why Do I Do HIIT Workouts?

Questions Answered:

I have gotten emails asking why I do HIIT workouts opposed to the more popular yoga or low-key Pilates. The answer is because I like to work hard and work up a good sweat.

Yeah I know you can sweat in yoga and Pilates and those types of work outs, but I like to get my heart rate up and really test myself and see how hard I can push myself. I ran cross country in high school so I have always preferred workouts that push the limits--to the point of almost throwing up after a workout. When I was running cross country for the varsity team our coach pushed us too hard. By the end of the season I had been running on stress fractures and was down for the count for the following seasons. I had to stop running by my junior year and it really depressed me, I could've gone to school on a scholarship like the other girls on the varsity team. Fast forward a few years and the coach eventually ran those girls too hard and they ended up with stress fractures as well...

After I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease I pretty much ate clean and never really worked out for about a year. I stuck to walks on the beach and trail hiking (which I love and still enjoy). I think that eating clean and a low impact work-out will give you your "ideal body" whatever that may be...but I still craved the feeling of almost passing out from such a good workout. I know it sounds weird, but I know you guys know what I mean...working hard, sweating to the point where it looks like you showered, there is just something so satisfying about it. Yoga, Pilates, Barre Classes...those workouts didn't really satisfy me. I wanted the feeling of having run 6-12 miles, but without damaging my stress fractures and re-fracturing my bones. I wanted to be out of breath like I had just competed in a race, but without being too hard on my body. So I started trying out some HIIT workouts.

HIIT is addicting, just as running used to be for me.
I can cater the workouts to how my body feels that particular day. If my stress fractures feel like they took a beating from the workout the day before then I will focus on upper body and still work up the same sweat that I did from doing cardio.

I put on muscle pretty quickly, so does my mom so it could just be good genes and it doesn't take long for me to see results! But with HIIT I think you see results quickly no matter the person.

I know that HIIT isn't for everyone and if you prefer yoga or Pilates, barre classes, kick boxing, whatever you do, then that works for you and you shouldn't stop doing it!
I am just answering the questions of a few emails I have gotten asking about my workouts, why I do them, and what is the difference between HIIT and other workouts.

I do not eat clean all day every day...I'm human, some days I forget to eat until dinner, some days I can't stop eating, some days I am PMSing and nothing sounds good except candy and chips...other days just thinking of junk food makes me sick to my stomach. For the most part, I have a very clean diet, made up mostly of fruits, vegetables, nuts, lean meat and I prefer coconut oil and olive oil over butter.

I have always loved cooking and have been cooking meals for myself since middle school, living a healthy lifestyle is important to me and I like to take care of my body, especially having Celiac Disease and recovering bones from lack of nutrient absorption because of the disease...being healthy is a priority.

These are workouts I can continue to do when I am pregnant, not looking/feeling my best, or on days where I do not feel like going anywhere but staying home in my jammies. You just adjust the workouts to how you feel that day, keeping you motivated :)

I hope you guys have a great day!

Keep the questions coming!

EASY Hard Boiled Eggs in the Oven

I have been wanting to make hard boiled eggs for a while, but I really hate boiling them because half of them crack during the process, you have to clean the pot afterwards and there is still a chance they didn't turn out right...

So when Zack insisted on egg salad sandwiches this week I thought I would try out the oven method.

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees
  2. Place as many eggs as you want in your muffin tray
  3. Put the muffin tray with the eggs in the preheated oven & set timer for 30 minutes
  4. After 30 minutes, place eggs in ice cold water (I let mine sit for about 20 minutes while I did laundry)
  5. Peel and enjoy!!!
* Depending on your oven the cook times may vary, but 30 min. worked perfectly for me*

Right out of the oven!

These hard boiled eggs can be used to make deviled eggs, egg salad sandwich, or just a quick snack and are PERFECT and READY right after soaking:)

Soak the eggs in ice cold water...even just cold water worked for me...I just kept some cold water running on them for the first five minutes while the temperatures equilibrated

Came right off in one peel! No messy pieces of egg shell everywhere!

I hope this helps simplify the messy process of making hard boiled eggs and maybe even saves you the frustration of trying to crack them open!!!

Have an amazing Fall day! I can't believe we are already in November:)

Beautiful Fall Day & A Beautifully Colored Snack

This morning on my way to class at around 7:30 a.m. I thought I would take a picture of the beautiful sky. It always looks so crisp and cold outside after it rains. I just love the smell of wet asphalt! I cannot wait for more rain this season...we keep getting a taste of it here in San Diego, but is asking for a full week of rain too much? I don't think so! Common' weather!

If you look, you can see the little rainbow sneaking its way through the clouds :)

MMMMMmmmmm... Now for the yummy snack...IT'S POMEGRANATE SEASON! WOOOO!!!
This is a healthy snack especially for when you are craving sweets. Honestly, I have been craving jelly belly's for the past three days now (and no I did not satisfy those cravings, dangit!) BUT I did just eat a delicious pomegranate and I am definitely not craving jelly beans anymore.

Seriously, one of my favorite snacks I get so excited this time of year when they are in season. Pomegranates and Pink Lady Apples, sooooo good!

A trick to getting them all out quickly, this probably took me 3 minutes at most....
Cut the pomegranate in half. Take a wooden spoon and hit one half of the Pomegranate on the outer peel. Make sure a bowl is beneath because most of the seeds will come out this way. For the ones that do not come out, you have loosened them from the peel and they now come out SO EASILY when you start peeling back the pieces, they just fall right into the bowl.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FALL/WINTER SNACK?

The pomegranate picture is posted on my instagram (@SydneySedillo), follow me if you guys wanna see more pictures that I do not include on the blog. I would also love to follow you guys back!

Leave a comment below for what you guys would like to see next, or post it on my instagram or email it to me! I love talking to you guys!

Have a wonderful & cozy Fall day
